In an emergency, or if you smell gas or to report a gas or carbon monoxide emergency, or if a pipeline is struck (even if no gas leak has occurred) call the National Gas Emergency Service Helpline on Freephone number 0800 111 999 - 24/7.
Remember, DO NOT not operate any gas or electrical appliances or light switches until told that it is safe to do so.
If you smell gas - taking the following action can help keep you and the property safe:
- DO open doors and windows to ventilate the property.
- DO turn off the meter at the control handle unless the meter is in the cellar.
- DO call the National Gas Emergency Service number (0800 111 999 - 24/7).
It is important that you DON'T do any of the following as these could place you in danger:
- DON’T turn any power or light switches on or off.
- DON’T smoke or light any sort of flame within the property.
- DON’T use any appliances that could cause a spark.

If you have a electric fault - taking the following action can help keep you and the property safe:
- DO turn off the supply at the consumer unit / isolator unless they are in the cellar.
- DO call the National Power Cut Helpline (Freephone 105 - 24/7).
It is important that you DON'T do any of the following as these could place you in danger:
- DON’T turn any power or light switches on or off.
- DON’T smoke or light any sort of flame within the property.
- DON’T use any appliances that could cause a spark.

If you are not sure if you can deal with a fire, get out, call the Fire Brigade out and stay out.
If you discover a fire, calmly take the following action:
- Follow the Fire Action Notice for your building.
or, unless otherwise instructed, proceed as directed:
- Leave the room and close the door.
- Tell others in the building. RAISE THE ALARM!
- GET OUT.
- CALL THE FIRE BRIGADE OUT - dial 999
- STAY OUT!
- Only re-enter the building when the Fire Brigade tell you it is safe to do so.

If you suffer a leak, please try and isolate the water supply by turning it off at the stop cock.
If electrics or light fittings have been affected by the leak, DO NOT attempt to use these and call Moscrops immediately.
If the leak is coming from another property, please try and contact those occupants immediately.

Smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms should be regularly tested for operation by the occupier - preferably every week.
To test an alarm, locate the button labelled 'TEST' and push it in and hold. If the alarm is working, it will sound, along with any other alarms or detectors in your property that are linked to it.
If the alarm is battery powered, please check whether the batteries require replacement before reporting a fault. The replacement of batteries in alarms is the occupier’s responsibility.
If the alarm is mains powered, please do not attempt to disconnect or remove it, but report the matter to us as soon as possible.
